As part of the decarbonization initiatives within the steel plant in Taranto, Acciaierie d'Italia (AdI) and Avantgarde, an Apulian excellence in the technological redevelopment of railway locomotives, have entered into a memorandum of understanding for the development of a repowering project using hydrogen or hybrid traction systems of the diesel-powered locomotives currently employed in the internal railway logistics of AdI facilities. This project aligns with the broader context of the comprehensive energy transition program for integrated cycle steel production, a Hard-to-Abate sector, positioning Puglia as a future hub for green hydrogen.
